Today we say goodbye to President George Bush and hello to Barack Obama. I was happy that George W. won the election back in 2000 because we needed someone with integrity and a sense of honor to replace the scum before that soiled the White House and any sense of moral behavior we expect from our top leader. Bush came into office at a tough time when things were not secure and the economy was on the way downwards. He was challenged fairly quickly with 9-11 and demonstrated good leadership. He stepped up to the plate and helped secure America and demonstrate to terrorists that you shouldn’t mess with our free country.

President Bush wasn’t the best public speaker, by a long shot, but you always knew where he stood because he didn’t waver with the polls or change his beliefs and opinions to match the popular opinion of the day. I respected him and his faith.

Unfortunately, I think he failed in many areas this last term and didn’t stand up and speak out when he needed to most. He seemed to let things just happen and needed to stand up and take charge. I strongly believe that no matter which Republican ran for office this past election there was little chance of a win given the constant comparisons to Bush. Then again, Ron Paul was pretty revolutionary for a Republican and had some great ideas that could have garnered lots of support.

Goodbye Mr. Bush and God Bless you for your efforts. I truly believe Bush actually does love this country (unlike past Presidents who were more selfish than anything) and wanted the best for it, but maybe he just didn’t know how to get it done these last couple of years.

I am not a fan of President Barack Obama for many reasons, but since he is our President I will support and pray for him. I truly hope he does help people step up to the plate and work hard to improve conditions in the U.S. I just fear that he will continue the Democratic way of taking money from hard working Americans to give to those who don’t work hard and freeload off the backs of the working class. We can’t afford to continue holding people back from personal responsibility and action and need to enable people to get out of the cycle of welfare. Remember too, Barack is just a man like you and I and is not some type of superhero from Krypton that was sent here to save the planet.

As readers know I am a conservative Christian man and already voted for John McCain. I wanted someone more conservative than him, but there is no other choice this election. I honestly cannot believe the Democratic party actually has Obama as their candidate. This guy has no right even being considered for President and if he gets elected we might as well have voted for my neighbor next door who probably has more experience actually leading people than Obama does. This post at Sound Politics clearly supported the viewpoint that McCain is the only choice and I pray McCain actually wins on Tuesday.

If not, I honestly have significant concern for America if Congress and the people let Obama actually implement some of his planned initiatives. If you think the economy is bad now, I think we’ll find it in much worse shape when Obama gives money back to those that don’t pay taxes and then punishes those that pay almost all of the taxes already.

Thankfully, God is in charge of my life and I am not fearful of anything and welcome His return to take me to a much better place.

Of course, I was going to vote for McCain this fall since I value the safety and security of this country above all else since nothing else matters if the terrorists rule and I think Obama has no clue when it comes to the security of this country. I am much more excited now that Palin has been announced as the VP candidate and thinks she will fire up the conservative base, which is critical for the Republicans to win. She has some great beliefs, is a mother and wife, is young and energetic, and her record in Alaska looks like she is against all the corruption and unethical behavior in politics. The left may harp on her experience, but they have no room to talk when they are asking people to vote for Obama as the President with little experience.

Palin is running as the VP and not the President and it seems that every thing I have been reading lately sounds like they are counting on McCain passing away in office to make Palin the President. She is running as the VP, which you have to admit seems to be a role that we rarely ever hear about. The President and VP are not making decisions by themselves and personally I look at who the candidates surround themselves with as the real test to see how the country will be run.

We finally have a ruling this year I agree with as the majority decision upheld our Second Amendment rights. The case was brought to the Supreme Court through a case in Washington, D.C. that has had a 32 year law that banned private possession of handguns and required that any rifles or shotguns kept at home be unloaded and dissembled or bound by a trigger lock.

People will point to stats about how many gun deaths there are in the U.S., but how many are a result of legal gun owners? Then compare the HUGE number of deaths from car accidents and the gun death figures are insignificant. We are willing to risk our lives on the road and accept that risk, but not the risk that some psycho will take out a gun and shoot us at work which is a much less likely scenario. Maybe if more of us carried a concealed weapon we could take down these crazies.

It will be interesting to now see if other gun control legislation is challenged now that a precedent has been set by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Wow, another sad day for those of us in the U.S. as the five liberal leaning members of the Supreme Court continue to make bad decisions. This time they ruled that States cannot sentence child rapists to death. I love children and think that special rules should actually apply to those monsters who rape or harm children and am very disappointed by this ruling that may have made some of these beasts pause before acting. I don’t know if it is just urban legend or not, but I understand that child rapists are targets in prison so this may not actually make much difference.

Even though I am a Christian man, I have to tell you it would be extremely difficult for me to control myself if anyone touched or harmed my wife or three daughters. Death may actually be a better option than being raped by a monster because at least you are then immediately in Heaven, rather than having to live out your life with the mental, and maybe physical, damage caused by these demons. I am very emotional about protecting our children and probably shouldn’t say anymore here on this issue as it just gets me fired up.

OK, let me start off by saying that I just don’t have much time to post here anymore with my ZDNet blog, my normal day job, and life with my wife and family. I am just using this blog as a way to either voice some of my personal opinions, talk a bit about my devices, or rant when I need to rant. As we move into another highly anticipated Presidental election season you may see more political posts and if you don’t want to read them then please don’t and you may even want to unsubscribe to this blog, which is your decision to make.

Neither candidate reflects and upholds all the values that I hold dear to my heart and it is one of those years where I’ll have to choose the best for the job, with the primary role of keeping my family and me safe. That said there is really only one choice when it comes to voting for an American who loves this country and will do everything in his power to protect it and that is John McCain. Obama’s inexperience and attitude towards those who intend to harm us is scary and I just can’t believe there are intelligent people out there who may actually vote for him.

This idiotic latest Supreme Court decision highlights a key difference between these two candidates and makes it very clear who should be the next President of the U.S.A. Why should suspected terrorist detainees from other countries have the right to add to the backlog in our civil court system? Do you think this kind of ridiculous decision would ever be made in another country, only in America. I like McCain’s strong statement that Supreme Court ruling on Guantanamo Bay detainees is “one of the worst decisions in the history of this country.”

Wow, she just doesn’t give up, does she? According to every count of delegates and super delegates, Clinton has lost the race for the Democratic nomination and everyone seems to know it but her. I think she is trying to play her typical hard ball and secure a VP spot before acknowledging that she lost, but you can never know the mind of a pathological liar and fame seeker.

I think having Obama as the nominee gives McCain the better chance of winning since Obama has very little experience and is not as strong as Clinton was in many areas. I care about my daughters and their security so it is an easy vote for me to select McCain over Obama. As a vet myself, I trust those who served our country in the military (for the most part) since they know the sacrifices that have to be made and how to make the right choices to continue as a free country.

I just listened to the latest episode of the What Would Jesus Podcast and became infuriated when I heard the part about the idiotic decision in a California court regarding homeschooling. I searched online and found the news that this court ruled that homeschooling is unlawful. I highly doubt this decision will stick because it is unconstitutional and plain ridiculous. I am now going to find out who I can write to down there and let them know this decision must be thrown out.

We started homeschooling in Maryland since the school district we lived in was substandard and my wife felt led by the Lord to teach our girls. My oldest two were homeschooled for 2-3 years in Maryland. We then moved to Washington and my wife continued to homeschool my oldest two girls. After a few years the girls asked to try public school so they could ride the bus

We checked out our small local elementary and it seemed to be a good school where real Christmas carols with the name of Jesus were still sung in the Christmas program. My oldest daughter passed a coupe tests and went from 3rd grade in our homeschool curriculum to 5th grade, she skipped 4th. She has gotten straight A’s every quarter and has been in advanced honors courses the last 2 years too. My middle daughter started in 3rd grade and then achieved straight A’s in most every quarter as well. She is testing for 7th grade honors courses this Saturday.

Since it seemed this elementary school was doing well, we started my youngest daughter there in Kindergarten. She is a strong-willed child and we thought it may be good for her to try a class with other kids and a teacher that was not her parent. She did fine in Kindergarten, but then in 1st grade she was just getting satisfactory to low reports. That is unacceptable to us as there is no reason for her to achieve and suceed. We talked to her teacher and the school about our concerns that she may fall behind, etc. and they said she is just fine and is average. Against their desires we brought her home to build a strong foundation from homeschooling and I am happy top report that she too is now excelling and much happier. The school just wanted their number and were fine to let her slide through.

People throughout the world were all homeschooled in the past and I am not convinced that the government can do it better. Shoot, look at how poor America compoares to ALL other industrialized nations. We are failing and I place most of the blame for this on parents who do not take a person interest in their child’s education and just push them off to school every day. The teachers are trying hard, for the most part, but when their are disruptive kids that consume their attention and time everyone suffers.

The popular myth that homeschooled kids are social idiots is another issue that fires me up. 90% of the people I know who homeschool have kids who are involved in church, sports, Girls Scouts, etc and their kids get more social interaction than the fat kid who goes to school and then plops down to play games all night. Parents who homeschool are making MAJOR sacrifices in time and if you haven’t homeschooled then you have no idea how all-consuming it is and I applaud my wife for giving up so much to love and instruct our girls.

I do think there may be a select few who abuse the right to homeschool, but in Washington State they try to help prevent that by requiring one of the parents teaching their kids to have an Associates degree. Kids are also affiliated with a local school and can even participatre in sports, band, etc if they want since we are still paying all the same taxes as everyone else.

Support and encourage homeschooling and let the State of California know that the poor decisions by a couple of uneducated judges should not ruin the lives of thousands.
